Christian View of Money
Mark Vincent -
This 140-page book combines rich theology, deep reflection, and practical suggestions to help Christians think and act biblically when it comes to money.
Strengths and Highlights:
The focus of Christian View of Money is to help readers apply foundational biblical stewardship principles to real-life situations at home and through their church.
Although Christian View of Money would certainly be interesting reading for individuals, it is designed for church groups to study together to facilitate fresh perspectives, encouragement, and accountability.
The book is built around seven Christian core beliefs about money through the lenses of scripture, church history, and the author’s experience.
Each chapter concludes with a series of creative reflection questions based on several everyday-life situations, aimed at helping readers wrestle with their beliefs about money.
Christian View of Money consistently challenges readers to move from reflection to action. After the reflection questions in each chapter, a series of imaginative practical suggestions are offered to help churches and individuals respond with concrete action.
This book is an excellent choice for church leaders who want to help their members be more deliberate in their exercise of biblical stewardship.
Things to be aware of:
Church leaders will recognize many - if not all - of the foundational stewardship themes Vincent identifies. What makes the book worthwhile is both the presentation and application of those themes.
Although Christian View of Money was originally written as a resource guide for Mennonite churches, it has also been endorsed by other church groups (including the Kalamazoo Diaconal Conference, a CRC/RCA partnership).
Churches looking for a fundraising manual will be disappointed. Christian View of Money aims at something much greater – a transformation of the mind, heart, and strength.
